We are seeking an outstanding individual to head the outreach and training activities at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI).
The EBI, part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), is the central node for biological informatics services in Europe, providing macromolecular data to life scientists in academia and industry worldwide. Our services have over 300,000 individual hits every month and we run an extensive user training programme both at the EBI and around Europe.
The primary duties of the post holder are to coordinate (i) communication of the scientific mission and activities of the EBI to the community and (ii) the scientific training programme of the EBI. The communication role involves the following sectors: our academic users, our commercial users, scientific leaders, funders and politicians. The training role involves the coordination of training for the scientific users of the EBI data services. Most training courses are run by scientists from the EBI or our collaborating institutes. This role coordinates our training across all groups within the EBI and ensures maximum quality and effectiveness.
The post holder requires at least a degree in the molecular life sciences, most probably followed by PhD or other equivalent experience. Previous project and personnel management experience is essential. Proven track record in user training, publishing, or media is highly desirable.
Fluency in English is essential and some familiarity with other European languages is extremely desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills are also required.
An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
