The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.
We are seeking to appoint a scientist to further develop protocols for phenotype analysis of zebrafish mutants identified in the zebrafish mutation resource project. The post-holder will perform day-to-day genotype and phenotype analysis in a large scale zebrafish knock-out and phenotyping programme. As a Sanger Institute flagship project this programme will provide valuable biological resources for the entire biomedical research community
Essential Skills
Science degree in biological sciences
PhD or equivalent experience gained through work
Significant laboratory proficiency and independence usually gained through some post-graduate working experience (E)
Experience in the field of zebrafish genetics. (E)
Knowledgeable and skilled in approaches to performing molecular and morphological analysis of zebrafish mutants
Experience of writing manuscripts for publication
Capable of day-to-day direction of research project. (E)
Ability to select protocols or to develop new protocols where needed. (E)
Knowledge and initiative required to drive forward and develop new areas of research within the group. (E)
Excellent communication skills to allow presentation of relatively complex data in simple terms and explain these to others less experienced (E)
Ability to work within a team (E)
Supervisory/coaching skills and experience
Ideal Skills
Experience in the application of bioinformatics tools
Knowledge and experience of cryopreservation of sperm, eggs or embryos in model systems
Experience in performing the latest molecular methods (e.g. ISH, DNA microarrays)

This contract is fixed-term until 30th June 2012.
