{ Dear BSDP lover
Thanks for overwhelming interest in BSDP workshop. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, we are not able to conduct workshop on time. Keep on visting this page for new updates.
Thanks
BOL Team. }
Hey! Welcome to Bioinformatics Skill Development Program (BSDP) series page....
The BioinformaticsOnline (BOL), a bioinformatics education portal, began offering one and two week short courses in bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics and biological programming in 2009, in response to an identified need for a skilled and trained bioinformatics and computational biology workforce in India. BioinformaticsOnline (BOL) is working under the guidance of well know face of Indian bioinformatics communities.
The Bioinformatics Skill Development Program (BSDP) series was established under the supervision of Jitendra Narayan and colleagues, in order to hone the Indian bioinformatics skills. For BSDP new format and series of exciting workshops were designed by BOL team. It was recognized that with the introduction of new technologies and scientific approaches to research, the computational biology skill become an even greater asset. It also comes into the light that students with good programming knowledge lack biological approaches. This series of workshops focuses to hone the experts and users of these advanced technologies.
For two years, the series offered short courses in bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics and biological programming in various cities across India. Taught by top faculty from India and abroad, the courses offered small classes and hands-on instruction. You can expect the same high caliber of workshops aimed at the highest level of participants. We anticipate that this new series of workshops will be oversubscribed, so applicants with some experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Bioinformatics Skill Development Program (BSDP) - 2011
A. Training/Workshop on R and BioConductor for Genomic Data Analysis
The first in this Bioinformatics Skill Development Program (BSDP) series 2011 is the introductory level course, Training/Workshop on R and BioConductor for Genomic Data Analysis is, to be held on Dec ....., 2011, (Yet to decide/Tentative).
Objectives : Introduce the principles and bases of the statistical plateform and programing language 'R' , and several libraries on Bioconductor dedicated to high throughput biology, in particular of functional genomics (transcriptomics, CGH, proteomics, Chip on Chip ...).The focus will be the use of BioConductor for working with microarrays - - Gene Expression as well as Genomic Variation. Examples during the workshop will include SNP and CNV microarray chips. Data visualisation in R will also be covered in the workshop.
Bioconductor is a free, open source and open development software project for in depth analysis and comprehension of genomic data. It is based on the statistical R programming language and provides access to a wide range of powerful statistical and graphical methods for analysis of genomic data among others. The workshop assumes some programming experience, and basic familiarity with microarrays, statistics and their biological contexts. An optional introduction to R precedes the course and is open to all workshop participants.
There are 25 seats on the course, and seats are allocated on a "first come, first served" basis. Course will be arranged if there are at least 12 registrations. Participants will get a course certificate after attending the course.
A confirmation email will be sent to the participants about one week before the course. Participants can cancel their registration at latest three busines days before the course without extra costs. Cancellation after that is possible, but the whole course fee will be charged. Bills will be sent to the participants after the course by mail/email or as an electronic bill.
Thank you, and please forward this information to others who may find this useful.

B. Training/Workshop on Biological Programming
In Bioinformatics Skill Development Program (BSDP) series 2011 we are going to introduce biological programming skills, there we willl focus on most popular biological programming languages. We have also subdivided in the followong group
.Group 1.Training/Workshop on PERL/BioPerl is, to be held on , 2011, (Yet to decide/Tentative).
Group 2.Training/Workshop on Python/BioPython is, to be held on Dec , 2011, (Yet to decide/Tentative).
Group 3.Training/Workshop on JAVA/BioJava is, to be held on Dec , 2011, (Yet to decide/Tentative).
Objectives :In order to solve biological puzzles, several group of scientis are working to develop definite biological modules in different languages to speed up the programming and research work. In this workshop we will Introduce the principles and bases of the biological plateform and programing languages' , and several modules dedicated to high throughput biology, in particular of functional genomics (transcriptomics, CGH, proteomics, Chip on Chip ...) and protein analysis. The focus will be the use of biological modules and libraries for working with biological data.
There are 10 seats on each group of the course, and seats are allocated on the "basis of your programming skills ". Course will be arranged if there are at least 10 registrations. We expect you to have basic knowledge of programming.
If you are interested in this biological programming workshop, then please email us with your updated CV. A confirmation email will be sent to the participants about one week before the course.
Thank you, and please forward this information to others who may find this useful.
